Today the record industry got a heaping helping of "joining the year 2001 and not suing music fans is good for business".
Nielson Soundscan (the folks who track record sales) reported that digital sales were up 27% in 2008 to over a billion songs. iTunes and Amazon MP3 lead the way for selling this years biggest musicians: Coldplay, Leona Lewis, Lil' Wayne, Taylor Swift, Katy Perry, Rhianna, and Chris brown. All of which I do not own.
However CD sales continued to plummet by 14% (sad trumpet sound).
Vinyl is also making a big comeback. The biggest seller of Vinyl was Radiohead who sold almost 60,000 pieces, half of them being In Rainbows. Overall, Vinyl (yes I capitalize this great sounding medium) 1.8 million units in 2008, up from 1.5 million in 2007. It seems releasing albums on Vinyl is trending up again but actually gaining traction. This was considered a bit of a novelty in the late 90's but is finally getting some acceptance thanks to bands like Radiohead and White Stripes releasing their goods on albums, but many classic soul and rock albums being reissues on Vinyl such as Sam Cook, Nina Simone, Blue Oyster Cult, Judas priest, and Charles Mingus.

We hope that you are enjoying yourself and have made lots of crazy, unattainable resolutions for 2009.
Right about now, I'm resolving to never drink "that stuff" ever again and that my next resolution is going to Jack in the Box for an ultimate cheeseburger. That said, myself and the rest of the AGD crew will taking today off. So enjoy Death Cab for Cutie's "The New Year".
Thanks for hanging around AGD in 2008 and we hope to save you even more money on stuff in 2009.
Take Care,
AGD
If you buy a select pair of speakers or speaker packages from M-Audio, you can get a free pair of speaker stands. M-Audio speakers have become a really good affordable solution for home studios in recent years. But, if you have a mix desk already or have your computer speakers on a really set of stands, you can always use the free stands for cocktails or candles to recreate the "Wrapped Around Your Finger" video.

Trying to get into classical music? Even though he has never appeared on a bubble card, he is one of the greats and created his 5th symphony which was later covered by outgoing answering machine messages ("Nobody's hoooooome! Noo-bodyyyy's hoooooooooome") and the Saturday Night Fever song "A 5th of Beethoven" by the Big Apple Band. Way better than a bubble gum card, Lucy. Way better.

This isn't an official "daily MP3 Deal", so who knows how long it will last. Regardless, it's an amazing album of musicianship and funky sounds. If you have never heard "Darling Niki", you have never really heard this album.

Yeah, yeah. Another Hard drive. We're still working on getting a Neve console for a 90% coupon code and free t-shirt.
Anyway, we all know drive space is a big issue for backing up and transferring projects. Plus folks seem to be really interested in this particular drive because of it's quality and low price. This is the cheapest we have ever seen it and normally runs about $129 and higher. Rebate required.
- Free shipping
- eSATA\USB 2.0
- Data Buffer Cache: 16MB
- Access Time: 8.5ms
- 7200 RPM
Free shipping. Next highest price was $265.
This drive is a speed demon combining the SATA and the 10k rpm speed for demanding video and audio production needs. If you ever got the Pro Tools error saying your drives are too fragmented or slow to continue, this would help fix it. Be sure to check with your computer or mother board manufacturer as not all machines are equipped with SATA, but a PCI card can usually be purchased to fix it.

Whole deal is $349.
I haven't actually heard these ribbon mics. They are being heavily promoted by Mix magazine and considering you can get up to 4 microphones for $349 it's a pretty good deal for ribbons.
Here's what you get (ripped from the product page):
The SPL is a solid 145 db and the freqwuncy response is surprisingly wide at 30 to -18,000 Hz.
Ends 12.31.08.
